Our New Story

On the Road to 2020, 2030, 2050 and Beyond

Welcome to We, the World’s collaborative storytelling adventure. Our story begins in 2019, with ancient fears and hatreds threatening to destroy civilization as we know it.

At the same critical moment in Earth’s history, a generation is waking up in an interconnected world.

We are finding our place in the space between an old story that no longer serves us, and a new story that helps us to create a sustainable, just and peaceful future for many generations to come.

What can we do here and now to make a world that works for all? Each of us can do our own little bit to build a better future. But the stakes are high. It has been said,

“This is the battle of our lives, and a race against time.
We can win — and we must.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

For We, the World, the Big Question is, What can WE do together that we can’t do on our own? Let’s find out!

We’re all on the Road to 2020 and Beyond, walking day by day into an unknown future. Before you know it, April 2020 and the 50th Anniversary of the Earth Charter will be here. What can we do to show that we really do know how take care of the Earth, our home?

We are also on the Road to 2030 and Beyond, doing what we can to achieve the transformational Sustainable Development Goals set by all the countries of the world in 2015.

Is it possible to end poverty, protect the planet and create peace on Earth — all by 2030?

As we walk step by step on the Road to 2050 and Beyond, imagine the collective sigh of relief when we know for sure that the Earth’s temperature is coming back down. What will the 50th Anniversary of the Earth Charter look like in 2050?

To begin our journey to 2020, 2030, 2050 and Beyond, we need to take a step back to get a world-embracing vision of who we are and what we’re doing.
