EarthFlash! May 2050

“Tell us a Flash!Back,” said Annabeth.

Sage smiled. “What would you like to hear?” she asked.

“Tell us about Mending the Sacred Hoop,” said Ginnie.

“Ah, the Sacred Hoop.” Sage settled back, got that look in her eye, and said, “I learned about the Sacred Hoop from my friend Angelic. She told me it represents the whole human family and the community of life on Earth. The Hoop has been broken, and the world is out of balance. Only the humans can mend the Sacred Hoop. We do that by creating unity, oneness, wholeness, wellness.”

I asked my friend Juanita one evening, just after sunset, if she could use her magical artistic powers to create a visual for Mending the Sacred Hoop. She jumped up, hands on hips in the semi-darkness, and I could almost see her cape flowing as she said with complete confidence, “I can do anything!”

That night, I wrote her an email.

Dear Juanita,

These are the clues I have for what it looks like to Mend the Sacred Hoop.

We start with the Medicine Wheel.

The Medicine Wheel has four colors for the four directions. There are many interpretations.

This drawing by Brianna Skildum is surrounded by 11 circles, representing the Gardens of Global Unity. We will come back to that.

In our collaborative storytelling adventure, we begin to mend the Sacred Hoop by playing the World Game. We invite people of all ages to play with us.

Tomorrow’s Dreamers hosted the first EarthFlash! Games Show for Earth Day 2021. They introduced the EarthFlash! Treasure Hunt.

I told her that I see the Treasure Hunt as a blossoming flower, starting with the medicine wheel and expanding as more and more people played the Treasure Hunt.

  • JUNE – Earth Charter Treasure Hunt
    • First, find people in your part of the world who bring light and life to these themes of the Earth Charter:
      • Respect and care for the community of life
      • Ecological integrity
      • Social and economic justice
      • Democracy, nonviolence and peace.
    • Tell their stories, in any medium. When you have at least three for each theme, the next layer of the blossom appears.
    • Next, find people in your part of the world who are living all 16 principles of the Earth Charter.
    • Tell their stories, in any medium. When you have at least one for each, the next layer of the blossom appears.
  • SEPTEMBER – Gardens of Global Unity Treasure Hunt
    • Next, find people in your part of the world who are living all 11 Gardens of Global Unity.
      • Unity
      • Interdependence
      • Environment
      • Economic Justice
      • Health
      • Women
      • Children & Youth
      • Human Rights
      • Freedom
      • Disarmament
      • Peace
    • Tell their stories, in any medium. When you have at least one for each, the next layer of the blossom appears.
  • OCTOBER – Global Goals Treasure Hunt
    • Next, find people in your part of the world who are living all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Tell their stories, in any medium. When you have at least one for each, the next layer of the blossom appears.
  • (But that’s another story!)

Juanita stood tall, hands on hips, hair and imaginary cape blowing in the wind, letting the imagery flow through her.
“We can do this,” she said with confidence. “We can mend the Sacred Hoop. We can do anything. We are all connected.”

And Juanita created the most amazing artwork that captured the simplicity, beauty, elegance and magic of mending the Sacred Hoop with the EarthFlash! Treasure Hunt.
